Graduate-level knowledge of structural dynamics.A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.Designed ForĮngineers practicing or planning to practice in areas with high earthquake hazard who want to advance their knowledge of and ability to implement seismic structural analysis and design. You’ll learn about dynamics of structures, what a seismic hazard analysis involves, and the various design philosophies for resisting earthquake loading. We’ll conclude with advanced topics such as nonlinear analysis of structures, seismic evaluation and retrofitting of existing structures, performance-based design, and the design and behavior of seismic protective systems. In this three-course certificate program, you’ll develop foundational skills in seismic design and analysis of built infrastructure. Seismic resilience of civil infrastructure is critical for developing safe and sustainable communities in the United States, particularly in the earthquake-prone areas of the Pacific coast. Structural engineers who practice in these areas need a deep understanding of the principles of earthquake loading and seismic structural design.
